The Kaleido Hub project is organized on a large scale in a context of urban regeneration in the area of ​​Rho Fiera Milano and Ex EXPO 2015. It is located in a very fragmented and large area: the project aims to reconnect the separate areas from the infrastructures by creating a central node.
It sets itself the task of identifying a landmark element that is placed in a favorable and central position, benefiting connections and providing innovative spaces for the community. Try to overcome the barriers imposed by overpasses, the railway and the lack of visual continuity.
Project approach
Accessibility was a central theme in the development of the project as an attempt was made to avoid any kind of architectural barrier by favoring large walking spaces and different access points from the ground at level 0.Understanding and analyzing what was present in the context was also fundamental in this case to determine the design choices.

The reticular structure is divided into modules of 6.8 x 4.7 m and covers a length of 368.7 meters: 3.5 times a football field!
The hub
Kaleido Hub was born as a merger of functions, a multipurpose Big Box suspended above the station and which contains didactic, recreational and modelable attractions according to needs.
The project lot is characterized by accessibility, wide open spaces, attractiveness and seasonality. In addition, the area to the north-east is undergoing redevelopment, and therefore a favorable point to be taken into consideration for the development of distances.
The peculiarity of the project is that it develops above the present building: in fact, having to overcome the overpass and the station, the main body engages above them, leaving the road axes unchanged and connecting with the rest of the project through the elevated walkways that reach to L0.

Nothing of the pre-existence is altered, moved or modified as elements that cover important connecting functions (eg A52) or important attraction poles (eg Rho FieraMilano).
To support the building, it consists of a large steel reticular structural mesh that functions like a box, inside which the capsules are "hung". Distribution is entrusted to a series of cores arranged along the central axis of the building from which two walkways branch off, also suspended with the help of steel ropes. The capsules are arranged according to a regular geometry defined by the structural module.
